About the United Methodist Church
The United Methodist Church is a global denomination that opens hearts, opens minds and opens doors through active engagement with our world. The mission of The United Methodist Church is to make disciples of Jesus Christ for the transformation of the world.
A United Methodist is someone who joins in that mission by putting faith and love into action. We believe that God loves all people, and that we share in expressing that love. So the United Methodist tradition emphasizes God's grace and in serving others. We believe that Jesus Christ is the fullest expression of God's love--showing us the fullness of God's care through Jesus' teachings, death and resurrection.
John Wesley started the Methodist movement in 18th century England. His teachings on practical divinity (living out our faith) and appeals to reason and experience form important aspects of United Methodist practice today.
Who We Are
The United Methodist Church is a worldwide connection of more than 12 million members in Africa, Asia, Europe and the United States. We are the person next door, the church on the other side of the country, and the worshiping community across the globe. Together, we share a legacy of living as disciples of Jesus Christ, sharing God's love both in what we say and how we serve our neighbors.
What We Believe
The United Methodist Church shares a great deal with other denominations. Explore what we believe about God, Jesus, the Holy Spirit, the Bible, and more.
We also have a unique heritage and areas of emphasis. Learn what we mean when we talk about grace, how we serve people around the world, and ways we grow as disciples of Jesus Christ.
Community Service
Every second and fourth Thursday of the month we have a food pantry day where we provide food and diapers to the Genesee community through our Genesee campus at 7190 N. Genesee Rd. Food distribution begins at 10AM as a drive-thru. Our helpers load groceries into the trunks of those who are in need.
We also partner with Genesee Public Schools and the Wolves Den to provide items of need, such as school supplies, toiletries and even clothes.
Our Covered With Prayer group meets every 2nd and 4th Monday of the month making quilts for a variety of situations.
Our History
United In Christ UMC was formed on January 1, 2024 out of the merger of Genesee United Methodist and Thetford Center United Methodist churches. Both churches had long and storied histories and were well respected within their communities.
Genesee United Methodist Church laid the cornerstone of their building on July 15, 1903 and the building was completed in March of 1904. The building was dedicated on March 20, 1904.
Thetford Center United Methodist Church began the process of building their original building on Vienna Rd in 1906 and held their first service at that location on May 12, 1907. Due to the expansion of Vienna Rd. in 1971-72, Thetford Center UMC was forced to move their location to our current location at 11394 N. Center Rd. The building was completed in 1973 and the first service was held on May 13, 1973 which so happened to be Mother’s Day!
Genesee UMC and Thetford Center UMC developed a long-standing relationship and partnership in 1971 becoming a two-point pastoral charge. For 52 years the two churches worked side by side and hand-in-hand in reaching out to the community before the two churches decided that, together as a united body rather than separate entities, they could do more in reaching the surrounding community leading to what is now United In Christ UMC.
